By the end of this guide, you'll use Claude (free AI chatbot) to translate messages to and from any language your guests speak — in real time, on your phone. You'll handle communications with Spanish, Mandarin, French, Portuguese, Japanese, and 50+ other language speakers fluently, even if you speak only English.
What you'll need
Why phone over computer: When a guest is standing at the desk, having the translation on your phone means you can turn the screen toward them, which allows them to read the translation directly. Much faster than typing on a desktop.
Workflow A: Translate an incoming message or OTA inquiry
When you receive a message in a language you don't read:

Open ChatGPT or Claude and type:
Give me the 15 most useful hotel front desk phrases in [Spanish/Mandarin/Portuguese/etc.] with English translation side by side, and phonetic pronunciation for each. Phrases like: "Welcome, how can I help you?", "Your room is ready", "Checkout is at 11am", "Is there anything else I can help you with?"
Print this and keep it at the desk for quick reference when you can't access your phone.

Emergency/urgent situation translation:
